The Underneath

Senior Thesis Work

The dictionary definition of an escape is defined as “avoid[ing] a threatening evil”. To me, escaping is something fantastical. I find myself searching for an escape by looking back to times when I felt the most alive.

My thesis paintings are inspired by a world that is unknown to my eyes, ears, nose, and every other possible sense. I put my visions and hallucinations to canvas by painting landscapes of countries I have previously traveled. I am currently looking further into the landscape to start detaching certain aspects of recognizable forms and configurations. I am essentially peeling back layers to an underneath. I am abstracting architecture as well color, texture, and shape - all being used to make up an aesthetic perception.
